Vol. 867
November 12, 2008
To prevent the destructive Quagga and Zebra mussels from potentially shutting down the water delivery system, EBRPD is asking all boaters to prevent the spread of mussels into East Bay reservoirs and lakes. If you are launching your own boat at Lake Chabot, Del Valle, Quarry Lakes, or Contra Loma, be prepared for a mandatory boat inspection. Wet boats, motors or gear will be denied launching. General Activity
Del Valle (Livermore)
Marina hours are 7 AM to 5 PM. Boat rentals are ½ off on Wednesdays. Fishing has been good. The striper bite is still great, with some nice sizes caught using anchovies by anglers fishing near the dam and through the narrows. The trout are still hanging out at about 10 to 15 feet at the dam and trolling has brought in some nice catches. If largemouth bass is what you’re looking for, try the early morning and late afternoon around the downed trees and cattails using rubber worms or Power Bait Blade Dancers. The catfish bite is slowing down, but using the catfish Power Bait or chicken livers will bring them in. Fishing along the coves and the south end of the lake has been the best for catfish. A 33 lb. cat was caught on Friday using chicken livers near the marina. Back to top
Horseshoe Lake (Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, Union City/Fremont)
Park Hours are 7am – 6 pm. Fishing has been great! The cooler weather is bringing the fish closer to the surface. The hottest spots have been Fishermen's Row and the disabled-accessible fishing pier. On 10/30, Jerrod Gobel of Fremont caught three trout about three pounds each. He was trolling the back side of Horseshoe Lake. Also on 10/30, Fred Omai of San Mateo caught four trout using nightcrawlers. He was fishing to the right of the boat ramp. On 11/4, Gilbert Wills of Hayward caught a four-pound trout using a Kastmaster. He was fishing in the Kiosk Cove. On 11/6, Gary Morse of Fremont caught two nice-sized trout using a nightcrawler for one and a brokenback Rapala for the other. He was trolling the front of Horseshoe Lake. Also on 11/6, Shin Kato of Fremont caught two trout, about two to three pounds each using a white and green Power Egg for one and a sunrise Power Egg for the other. He was fishing along the middle of Fishermen's Row. On 11/6, Ron Louie of Fremont caught four trout on a little Cleo lure. He was fishing off the disabled-accessible fishing pier. Fishing on 11/7 was awesome! Ray McVey of Fremont caught his limit of trout in less than four hours. He was trolling. Five-year old Nehemiah Holscher, eight-year old Omar Rivera and Daniel Holscher caught a total of six trout using yellow Power Eggs. The total weight was about 15 pounds. Lake Chabot (Castro Valley)
HOURS: HOURS: The Cafe and Marina are open from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Water clarity remains good even with the rain this past week, and the water temp is in the mid 60’s. Trout anglers had a very good week. Limits were caught both from trolling and bait fishing in the Half Moon Bay area. The average size trout pulled out are in the 2 lb. range. The best way to fish for trout right now is using a sliding sinker set up and using Power Bait or Power Eggs. When trolling for trout the lure to use is a J-7 Rapala. The current hotspot for trolling is the Dam going towards Bass Cove using a J-7 Firetiger. Bass fishing has been slow. Catfishing has been fair to slow.Shadow Cliffs (Pleasanton)
Park Hours 7:00am-6:00pm. The boat launch is still closed, but that’s o.k. because the shoreline fishing is HOT!
