After a brief closure, the Lake del Valle west beach has reopened for swimming. The closure had occurred due to unusually low levels of water for this year.

The State of California Department of Water Resources owns Lake del Valle, which provides regulatory storage for the South Bay Aqueduct and flood control for Alameda Creek. The East Bay Regional Park District manages fish and wildlife enhancement and recreation at the lake.
