Pat O'Brien, General Manager of the East Bay Regional Park District, authorized a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting and killing 15 young goats grazing on open space in Oakland.
"Although these goats were not on our property, we do use goat grazing in many of our parks, and we take this crime very seriously," says O'Brien.
Goats typically graze for short periods of time on open space near residential areas to provide fire safety by means of vegetation management. According to newspaper accounts, the dead goats were found near the King Estate open space near Greenly Drive in Oakland. Anyone with information should call Oakland Animal Services at 510-535-5640.
