General Activity

Del Valle (Livermore)

Check out Sunrise Mountain Sports Kayak Center at Del Valle for rentals Friday through Sunday. Boat rentals are ½ off on Wednesdays. Fishing has been great! As the water warms the trout go deeper, but the anglers are still bringing in their limits using yellow Power Bait and worms. Catfish are being caught on chicken livers, worms, and anchovies. Plastic bite worms have been working for the smallmouth bass, while the 4 inch Berkley power worms are enticing the largemouth bass. Stripers have been reported trolling through the narrows. Bass, crappie and bluegill are also starting to show up. On 9/13, Corey Childress of San Jose caught a 16 lb., 11 oz. striper on Strike pro at the dam! On 7/19, eight year old Ryder Wolfe of Livermore caught his first fish, a 2 lb. trout with a worm at the dam. 7/20 was a good day for stripers in the narrows – Miguel Serrato of Palo Alto, Ruperto Mendoza of San Jose and Hugo Torres of Sunnyvale brought them in. Horseshoe Lake (Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, Union City/Fremont)

Park Hours are 6am – 9 pm. Trout fishing is slow, unless you fish deep. Catfishing on the bank is picking up and good in the morning and late afternoons. Back to top

Lake Temescal (Oakland)

Catfishing is picking up for anglers using nightcrawlers or mackerel. Back to top

Contra Loma (Antioch)

Park Hours for April – 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Catfish are biting on nightcrawlers or anchovies along the north side of the lake or Channel Point. Black Bass are biting on nightcrawlers or using lures along the shore from Channel point, Loma Island to the boat ramp area. Crappie are biting on jigs or worms along the shore around Loma Island and the boat ramp area. Trout fishing has slowed down; try using nightcrawlers or a variety of Power Baits almost anywhere around the lake. Kelsey and Arne Martinez caught a 4 lb. catfish at Channel Point with worms. Mitch Querantes from Antioch caught a 13.5 lb. black bass with a popper fly. Back to top

Lake Chabot (Castro Valley)

HOURS: The Cafe and Marina are open 7 days a week from 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM; boat rentals start at 6:00 AM and stop at 5:00 PM; boats are due in at 6:00 PM Monday - Thursdays, 7:00 pm Fridays – Sundays. Water level is around 4 below full. Afternoon winds have been showing up around 3 p.m. Water clarity around the lake is generally good with 8-10 feet of visibility and the temp is in the mid 70's. Fishing overall is a little slow but it will soon improve when the water temperature rises. There are still plenty of trout out there but the bait fishing is working best. A few trout are still coming in but you have to get out on the water early because the bite slows down when it starts to warm up. The fishing has been most productive from the Burner on down towards the dam. Trolling has slowed down a lot due to warmer water. The best place to try trolling is down the dam where the water is deeper and colder. Bass fishing is picking up, but they aren't biting on reaction baits yet, so use worms and jigs on the bottom. With the warmer water the fish will be most active in the morning and at night. Livewells can be provided upon request thanks to Walton's pond. Please practice catch and release for bass as they are not stocked into the lake and their population depends on you. Catfishing is picking up with the warmer water and people are catching close to limits in honker bay, and near the marina. Sliding sinker or weightless set ups are the best techniques for fishing for catfish. Back to top
