Fire Weather Season Information
During fire season, please use caution when visiting the parks. Since wildfire is potentially devastating to our parks, homes, and lives, the Regional Parks Fire Department has developed new signage that explains various degrees of dangerous fire potential. The fire danger may lead to restrictions in the parks. Many days from July through October may be rated “extreme” or “very high.”
If the sign or other public notice says the fire danger is "extreme" or "very high", please plan to take extra precautions.
Extreme
What it means: An intense, fast-moving fire can start easily not only from matches and embers, but even from sparks from cars, mowers or other motorized equipment.
What you can do: Smoke only within vehicles and developed recreation areas. Open fires and barbeques are not permitted anywhere in the park because the smallest ember or spark can cause a fire. Use ashtrays and completely extinguish all cigarettes.
Very High
What it means: A fire can start easily from matches or glowing embers, and spread rapidly.
What you can do: Smoke only within vehicles and developed recreation areas. Smoking outside these areas (such as on trails) may put you and other visitors at risk. Likewise, limit campfires to designated campgrounds, picnic areas, or developed recreation areas. Use ashtrays and completely extinguish all cigarettes.
